If boots and bikes are your thing, then you can explore miles and miles of walking paths and cycle tracks in the area, allowing you to explore the Forest of Dean in all its beauty. You can join a popular four mile long art-meets-nature sculpture trail just 20 minutes from the Park, for instance.
Sections of the Gloucester Way and Wye Valley Walk are also within easy reach. You can even do Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes. National Trust sites are within easy striking distance too at Woodchester Park and Westbury Court Gardens. Symonds Yat provides opportunities for caving, climbing and canoeing and Clearwell Caves are also nearby.
The younger members of the group (grandchildren coming to visit or young adults) will appreciate the strange woodland paths at Puzzlewood or enjoy zipping through the treetops at Go Ape! Nature lovers will appreciate the bird life at Slimbridge Wetlands Centre while there are castles and cathedrals to explore at nearby towns of Berkeley and Goodrich.
Your nearest village is Blakeney which can trace roots back to Roman times. Today it is well served by a village store stocking your essential supplies and local pubs. Situated on the banks of the River Severn, Lydney is the nearest town, served by a Tesco supermarket and Co-Op.
From Gloucester, take the A48 through Minsterworth and Westbury-on-Severn. Continue past Newnham-on-Severn toward Blakeney. Valley View Lodges is located just 2.5 miles beyond, in a peaceful park setting.
